The most important results of fundamental and applied research
New approaches to the synthesis of poly-sulfur-containing heterocycles containing several sulfur atoms and a nitrogen atom based on the reaction of sulfur monochloride complexes and nitrogen-containing bases have been discovered. A number of new heterocyclic systems have been synthesized, including 1,2- and 1,4-thiazines, thiophenes, monocyclic and condensed 1,2-dithiols and 1,2,3-dithiazoles, 1,2,3,4,5-pentathiepins 1,2,3,4,5,6,7-heptathiocanes, etc. The polysulfide-containing heterocyclic compounds obtained by us (1,2-dithiols, 1,2,3,4,5-pentathiepins and 1,2,3-dithiazoles ) show high anti-cancer, antimicrobial and antifungal activities.
The synthesized 1,2,3,4,5-pentathiepins were studied as cathode material for rechargeable batteries; condensed 1,4-dithiins have been proposed as multi-purpose components for photoreceptors.
Scheme 1
A classification of transformations of organic substrates with sulfur monochloride was proposed, which made it possible not only to systematize the previously open reactions, but also to plan the selective synthesis of new sulfur-containing heterocyclic systems from acyclic fragments.
