Description
The laboratory was organized in 1959 and headed up to 1989 by Acad. N.K. Kochetkov, who is currently its supervisor. Until 2005, the laboratory was headed by prof. V.N. Shibaev.
Research areas and main results
Chemical synthesis of biologically important carbohydrates and their derivatives (highly branched mannooligosaccharides, sialooligosaccharides, lipochitooligosaccharide nodulation factors, conjugates of carbohydrates with various physiologically active compounds).
Chemical synthesis of phosphorylated intermediates of complex carbohydrate biosynthesis (derivatives and analogs of polyprenyl phosphates and glycosyl phosphates) and research on the biosynthesis of glycoproteins and bacterial polysaccharides.
Studies of the structure of complex carbohydrates of different origin: bacterial polysaccharides and lipopolysaccharides, glycoproteins, glycolipids.
