Description
The main task of the department is to provide Russian scientists with high-quality scientific and technical information.
Are you a process engineer and you need information about the latest technologies in your field?
Are you a synthetic chemist and do you need to synthesize a complex substance or find a chemical reaction?
You are an employee of the patent information service and you need information to protect the development of your company?
Are you the head of a chemical, pharmaceutical or metallurgical company and you need information about possible partners or competitors?
Main results
Since 1991, under an agreement with the Chemical Abstracts Service, access was provided to The Scientific and Technical Network International (includes about 200 databases). In STN International, you can find a variety of information - from life support systems for spacecraft and nuclear submarines to methods for synthesizing complex natural compounds, from gene sequences to legislation on environmental protection, drug trafficking and the law of the sea. Employees of the department have accumulated extensive experience in conducting various types of searches.
Methodological textbooks were published in Russian on STN International search. For students of the Higher Chemical College of the Russian Academy of Sciences and post-graduate students of the Institute of Organic Chemistry, RAS, courses on modern methods of searching for scientific and technical information are given. It is planned to publish a new manual on information retrieval in STN International together with employees of the Federal Institute of Industrial Property.
Regularly held meetings, seminars with representatives of foreign publishers, which demonstrate new items in the field of information chemistry. As a result of these events - access to the IOCh RAS is organized for access to the structural-chemical search system REAXYS, full texts of journals of various publishing houses (American Chemical Society, Elsevier, Royal Society of Chemistry, Wiley-Blackwell, Taylor and Francis and others).
In 2009, a consortium of academic institutes of the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences was created for access to SciFinder, the information retrieval system for Chemical Abstracts Service. Due to financial support from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, since 2012, 21 RAS institutes have been included in the consortium.
